Population estimates and projections
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) publish population data, including population estimates or projections for England and Wales. These include:

Population estimate at small area level (including Ward, Medium level super output area (MSOA), Lower level super output area (LSOA)).
Population estimate at local authority level
The Population estimate at local authority level is usually published in the summer (July or August) and is an estimate for the previous year. The data is available by sex and age.

Population estimate at small area level
This version of the Population estimate is available at various area levels. These include ward, MSOA and LSOA levels, but the smallest area available is Output area (OA). The data is available by sex and age. This data is usually published in the autumn and is an estimate for the previous year.

Population projection at local authority level
The Population projection data is published every two or three years. The data estimates the population for the next 25 years, from a starting point of two or three years before the release date. It is available at local authority level and by sex and age.
